About

Hi, my name is Lon and I'm currently a 4th year student in Game Programming at Breda University of Applied Sciences and UI Code intern at Guerrilla Games. My main interests and skills lie in Custom Engine and 3D Graphics and Tools programming, but I'm always open to explore new directions!

Although I usually like to play games that are more stylized or even 2D, my main passion lies in Graphics programming. I discovered it while studying at BUAS and simply enjoy the challenges it brings and seeing my efforts reflected directly on screen.

Outside of programming, I enjoy watching anime and playing games like monster hunter, mystery visual novels and (arcade) rhythm games. I also enjoy doing arts and crafts such as drawing, sewing and cross stitching.

Projects

Blightspire Engine + Game

Blightspire engine is a custom engine made in Vulkan, aimed to facilitate creating the wave-based arena shooter Blightspire inspired by games like Quake, CoD zombies and Ultrakill.

My contributions:

GPU based particle system using 4 compute/vert+frag shaders
GPU based particle system fully integrated into engine's ECS, scripting and editor
Screen space decal rendering
Conducting playtests
Gameplay adjustments according to player feedback

Blossom Engine + Game

Blossom is a relaxing game where you play as a bee, with the goal to collect pollen to deliver back to your hive and revitalize the environment.

My contributions:

FastNoise2 node editor and library integration
Bloom and tonemapping on PC and PS5
Port other graphical features from PC to PS5

Volumetric Fog renderer

A volumetric fog renderer and tool integrated into BUas's Bee engine.

Features:

Full-screen compute pass ray-marching through volumes
Non-uniform fog using 3D noise
Optimizations including rendering to lower res and bilateral upsampling

PBR renderer

In my 2nd year at BUAS, my first project was to make a renderer and implement PBR lighting for PS5 target hardware. This was my first project focused on rendering/graphics.

Out of ConTROLL

Out of ConTROLL is a chaotic and competitive combat racing game for 2 to 4 players. The goal is to eliminate your fellow trolls and be the first troll to get 8 points.

My contributions:

Main menu implementation
Character selection screen for multiple controllers
Player HUD responsive to game/player state
